Crowley’s Glounminane

Crowley’s Glounminane

This townland was owned by Samuel Townsend in the mid 1800’s. It was used as a base for major game shoots on Mount Hillary and the gamekeeper at Longueville, Arthur Olyatt  organised many of these and some hounds for this purpose were kept there also. The house was used by the Barrow and Coleman schoolteachers as their residence during the early 1900’s and Ned Murphy and his family resided there for a while. Ned was the most senior ranking officer in the Lombardstown Volunteer Company and became second in command to General Liam Lynch in the North Cork Battalion.
