This is an original Parnell Cottage built from the 1870s onwards to relieve rural property. Jack Lenihan (a shoemaker) and his sister Nonie lived here. /The Parnell Cottages were 2 up and 2 down, 1.5 storey's high with a window in each gable. Most importantly they had a slate roof and came with half an acre. Later Parnell Cottages were also provided with a cown and pig house. They also had the right of the width of a shovel around the bounds of the land for repairs and vegetation clearance./This house is in Gortroe village at the junction with Cope Hill which heads westwards. The road going N is the Longmile Road and this was the old toll road to Cork. Nearby is Mutton Lane where people kileld and cooked stolen sheep (the date of this event is not clear)./ The 1911 Census shows Linehans living in House 7 in Gortroe (http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Cork/Kilshannig/Gortroe...).
