Crushea

Crushea

The townland of Crushea is situated approx 2 miles outside Ardmore village in West Waterford. Canon Power's Placenames of Decies reads Crushea as Crois Aodha - “Aodh’s Cross.” which could have Early Medieval origins and associations with St. Declan. Could hte cross refered to in the placename be an early medieval boundary marker for church lands?

There is a Killea near Dunmore East and another near Templemore in North Tipperary which are both named after Aodh, an associate of Declan's. Closer to home Monea (the bog of Aodh) might relate to the same person.
