There is some debate relating to the position of the current plaque on what is thought to be a Freemasons Lodge in Mitchelstown. There are competing theories that the hall is located on either street corner in Kings Square. There are masonic symbols still found in the house believed locally to be that of the Freemasons Lodge in Mitchelstown. This is the oldest known Lodge building in Ireland.
