Glantane Monument

In memory of the three IRA volunteers from Kilshannig Parish who gave their lives for theirs and our country. This monument in Glantane commemorates the three volunteers killed in action from Kilshannig Parish, Liam (William) O Connell, Michael Kiely and Ned Waters.

 

1798 Monument

Names of 11 men are inscribed on the monument and these men were hanged in its proximity between 11th and 13th of June 1798.

Monument to the Venerable Edel Quin who was born in castlemagner parish and baptised in the adjacent church.

Irish athletics champion and Olympic gold medalist

 

Denis Horgan

Denis Horgan was born in Fermoyle Banteer on May 18th 1871 and died in June 1922. He was a champion Irish athlete and weight thrower. During his career he won over 42 titles for the shot put including the Triple A Shot put championship thirteen times.

 

Cnoc Breac Battle Site

Cnoc Breac Battle site known as Knockbrack monument was erected in July 2002 by Banteer and Lyre Community Council. On 26th July 1651 a wet stormy summer day an army of approximately 3000 led by Lord Broghill (Cromwellion) defeated an Irish army led by Lord Muskerry.
