Molly McLoughlin Coughlan 1897-1939

During the Irish War of Independence Molly provided a safe house for Irish Volunteer Liam Mellows, and the story is told that he was hid up a chimney breast when the house was searched by the black and tans. He later wrote back to her with his thanks. She was awarded a Cumann na mBan medal for her bravery. Liam was executed in 1922 by the Free state army.

In 1922 she was Captain of the Tang branch of Cumann na mBan and there were 15 members, at that time. She died in 1939 aged 42.
