Glenogue National School

Built in 1866 and was financially supported by the local Landlord the Newmans of Newberry Manor near Drommahane. John Kelleher was the first Principal appointed and the following assistants came afterwards-Catherine O Connor, Margaret Doherty, Jane O’Leary, Brigid O’ Flynn, Nora Kelleher, Nora O’Sullivan, James O’Connor appointed Principal in 1896. Other assistants were-Jane Barrow, Seamus Hennigan was the last principal in Glenogue and Mrs Eileen Cronin the last assistant. Two teachers, Kathleen Mulcahy and Noreen Sexton kept the school open for a short time but it closed fully in 1968 and the 25 pupils were transferred to Drommahane. The school played an important role in the War of Independence with meetings and drills taking place and guns were hidden in the attic for safe keeping.
