Groups audience:
This was the home of Ned Murphy who built the house himself in the 1930’s. Ned was the most senior IRA volunteer in The Lombardstown Company and rose to be second in command to Gen. Liam Lynch in the North Cork Division. He was a member of the Mallow Batallion column and was involved in the capture of Mallow Military Barracks. He worked most of his life in the local creamery and escaped capture when the creamery was raided by the British army in 1920 because he was “on the run” and had to sleep out in haybarns etc. He is buried in Glantane cemetery (See headstone CO-GLSJ-0040 Glantane in www.historicgraves.com).
