Buckleys, Glantane

Buckleys, Glantane

This was originally an old thatched building owned by the descendants of the Lombards ie the Cotters and Delacour families. The Coleman family occupied the property in the late 1800’s and the Buckleys married in there who were teachers as also were some of the Colemans.  An annex to the dwelling acted as the Parish dispensary before 1850. Thomas Coleman taught in both Laharan and Glantane schools and did outstanding work documenting the pupils work in The Irish NS Folklore Collection. A David Buckley married in there and continued the teaching tradition in that house and a Sean Buckley, another teacher, also married in there. The house was slated in the 1950’s.The local PO was operated from here by the Buckley family for many years.
