Originally part of the John Berry’s farm which was leased from the Lombard descendants. It was subsequently leased by Peter Micks in c 1894 and by John Sheehan in c 1923 when it became a freehold. The RIC barracks in Glantane were burned down in 1920 and a Parnell Cottage was used as a Garda barracks in 1922 but with five guards to accommodate, this house was leased by the state and the building is known to this day as “the barracks” and is still owned by the Sheehan family one of whom was appointed a Peace Commissioner. It was formally a two storey thatched building that was raised and slated in c.1939.
