This was previouslt Ahearne's forge but is now known as Tarrant's. There are still plenty of Tarrant's around. A Paddy O'Connor worked with Nicholas Tarrant in the forge. Paddy had previously worked in Glantane forge and he left the Tarrant's to work in the cheese factory in Rathduff./Nicholas Tarrant used to buy a wagon load of coal in Lombardstown station for use in the forge but he'd also weigh it and bag it on his scales and sell it to families thereabouts. / The main work of the forge was banding wheels and shoeing horses. The banding pool was behind the forge in an old mill race. The Tarrant's used to maintain the old mill race to keep their banding pool functional. The old mill race can still be traced crossing hte road in front of the forge and cutting into the field opposite.
