Eliza Power, widow, lived in this house in 1911. Originally from Co. Laois (Queen's County) Eliza is aged 69 in 1911 and her occupation is listed as domestic servant. The house is owned by James Tierney and it has two rooms and two windows. There are no outhouses or sheds listed for this house. Eliza is living alone on the night of the census, at least. In 1901 Eliza lived in the same house with her daughter Mary Ann. The 1901 form records Eliza as being originally from Co. Carlow. The 1901 & 1911 census records are contradictory for Eliza. She is 48 in 1901 and 69 in 1911. Is she from Carlow or Laois? They are adjoining counties and indeed, part of Carlow Town is actually in County Laois, so the mix up is understandable. Can she read & write or not? Maybe Mary Ann, the daughter, signed the 1901 census whereas Constable McGan witnessed Eliza's mark in 1911. Also if Mary Ann was 10 in 1901 then it is more credible that Eliza had her in her late 30s and the age of 48 in 1901 is more likely. I wonder whatever happened to Mary Ann?
