Mc Loughlin/Coughlan, Coolvin, Co. Westmeath Griffith Valuation 1854 Barony of Kilkenny West, Parish of Noughaval, Union of Ballymahon, Townland of Coolvin, Co. Westmeath. Tenant was Frank McLoughlin The Landlord was Dr. Charles St. John. Note: The Valuation Revision Books show that John McLoughlin took over the lease of the property in 1888 from Frank McLoughlin He died in 1899 and his brother Frank became the tenant. Note:It is believed that the McLoughlin’s came from Forgney, and that a McLoughlin married into Coolvin by marrying a widow O’ Rorke. 1901 Census Francis Mc Loughlin was a 62 year old farmer born in Westmeath. His wife Margaret was 36. Francis and Margaret had a 3 year old daughter Mary (Molly). Maggie Rock was their 17 year old housekeeper at the time. Note:Margaret Mc Loughlin was born in Carrick, Doonis, The Pigeons. She married Francis in Tang in 1897. Her parents were John Rush and Margaret Dunican, who married in 1860, Margaret was born in 1862, and her sister Mary in 1864. (Margaret’s parents are buried in Noughaval) Note: Margaret and Frank had a son Francis who died as a toddler. Frank died in 1901 and he is interred in Noughaval Cemetry, as is his brother John. 1911 Census Margaret Mc Loughlin aged 49 was now the widowed head of the household. She was a farmer. Her daughters Mary was 13 and Bridget (Beasy) was 9, and her 17 year old nephew John was also present. Note:Margaret’s 17 year old nephew John, from Carrick, The Pigeons, helped her on the farm. He was the son of her sister Mary who was married to James Coghlan. John later in life went to live with his sister Peggy in Auburn Tce. in Athlone. Note:Beasy Mcloughlin married Ledwith from Ballymore. Note:In 1928 Laurence Coughlan, Walderstown, who married Mary Mc Loughlin is recorded as been the landowner. Margaret Mc Loughlin died around this time.
